Though there has been a recent change in the growth of women, there is still a visible paucity of women in the technical and construction industry, as just 1.4 percent of women are engaged in such technical roles within the industry. Furthermore, less than 2 percent reach leadership positions in construction companies. From this pool of 4:1 ratio of male to female students in Civil Engineering courses, only 20 percent of women join the construction sector because of the stigma due to environmental and societal pressures that make this disparity unreachable. Traditional and online media have covered the event on an extensive basis.
To break this very stereotype and acknowledge the women who are bringing about a change in this barrier and leading by example, Urja Building Services Consultants (UBSC) and Harmony Events & Talent have acknowledged women who have contributed their best in different fields in the vast sphere of the construction industry. The fields cover a large spectrum of women entrepreneurs from a real estate developer, structural engineer, interior designer, green building consultant, architect, landscape designer, electrical contractor, lighting designer, Vastu consultant and those who efficiently take on other roles in the construction industry. This is the third year the awards have been conducted. While the first two events were conducted within Maharashtra, the awards crossed the state borders this year, and the grand event was completed in Ahmedabad, Gujrat, on 30th April.
In the first season, the Real Women Awards recognized 26 women entrepreneurs from Mumbai. In the second season, 30 women from Pune were complimented. The third season happened in the city of Ahmedabad which is one of the fastest-growing cities in the country and the real estate sector is proving to be one of the drivers of the city’s growth.
